HCA Physicians Services Group (PSG)
Division Director of Quality; West Florida Division

As the Division Director of Quality for the HCA Healthcare Physician Services Group, I was responsible for overseeing clinical quality, regulatory compliance, risk management, clinical education, and patient safety across approximately 100 ambulatory practices in the West Florida Division. Key responsibilities and achievements include:

  • Developing and implementing educational programs to train physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Practice Managers, Medical Assistants, and other staff on CMS Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) quality measures.
  • Facilitating group trainings and orientations, as well as providing on-the-spot education during practice visits.
  • Initiating and leading bi-weekly division-wide quality check-in calls to foster a culture that supports and celebrates quality, risk, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Training staff on regulatory compliance and best practices related to OSHA, AHCA, and other standards.
  • Leading staff training on Root Cause Analysis and other investigative tools to assist with safety improvement, staff development, and risk mitigation.
  • Serving as a co-facilitator for the Primary Care Governance Council, an enterprise-wide council of primary care physician leaders.
  • Facilitating the Burnout and Resilience Committee, a committee established to investigate and mitigate physician burnout and promote resilience development across the enterprise.

RedPoint Medical 3D
Vice President of Education

As an early member of RedPoint Medical 3D, a pioneering startup in the medical device space, I played a crucial role in the company’s growth, culminating in a $20M exit and acquisition by Treace Medical Concepts, Inc. in June 2023. Press release.

RedPoint Medical 3D (RPM 3D) is the first patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) based company to market patient specific bone cutting guides for use in foot and ankle reconstructive surgeries for adult and pediatric patients down to the age of 12. In my role as Vice President of Education, my key responsibilities encompassed:

  • Developing press releases, website content, and other educational materials in collaboration with the RPM 3D Team.
  • Leading a project to assist the American College of Radiology with data acquisition efforts, aimed at converting CPT codes 0561T & 0562T from Class III to Class I status to maximize RVU.
  • Establishing a recycling program for our titanium cut guides, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability.

Consultant- Healthcare

As a consulting project manager on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contracts, I have:

  • Served as a consulting project manager on a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contract as a subcontractor to a CMS contractor to support an alternative payment model development contract in the Radiation Oncology space under the CMS Innovation Center.
  • Consulted on a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contract as a subcontractor to a CMS contractor on a task order that supports the reporting of hospital readmissions, hospital acquired conditions, and other value-based care efforts.
  • Improved project efficiency through implementation of Project Management Institute fundamental tools and techniques.
  • Created an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and set up a process for quarterly, monthly, and weekly planning and project tracking.
  • Established protocols and best practices and streamlined efficiencies using Microsoft Project, Atlassian Jira, and Atlassian Confluence.

Project Manager, Healthcare Policy and Quality Measurement Division

In my role as Project Manager II at Health Services Advisory Group, Inc., in the Healthcare Policy and Quality Measurement Division, I was instrumental in managing operations, facilitating program development, and leading human-centered design activities. My key responsibilities and contributions included:

  • Serving as the program and operations manager, assisting the Vice President of the Division with tasks such as budget management, subcontract agreement development and execution, new employee onboarding, invoice review, report development, and timeline monitoring.
  • Utilizing lean principles to reduce bottlenecks and streamline efficiencies across the division.
  • Managing approximately 50 full-time equivalent hours across five CMS contracts and two CDC contracts, optimizing staffing allocations to meet project deliverables and budgets.
  • Leading Human Centered Design activities and coordinating data acquisition efforts related to the CMS National Quality Dashboard.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the Impact Assessment (IA) of the CMS Quality Measures Contract Contracting Office Representative (COR).
  • Developing subcontractor and consultant agreements related to the IA contract and other contracts under the HPQM division.
  • Facilitating monthly meetings with contract directors to ensure budgets are met and hours across contracts are balanced.
  • Supervising the division’s Project Coordinator III and Administrative Assistant II.
  • Acting as a liaison between contract directors and the division VP, coordinating deliverables to balance workflow and reduce bottlenecks.

Quality Management Coordinator (2015-2016)

During my tenure as Quality Management Coordinator at HCA Healthcare, I played a key role in disaster management preparation, quality improvement initiatives, and employee retention strategies. My key responsibilities and contributions included:

  • Investigating and presenting root-cause analyses on readmissions, mortality, complications, restraint utilization and documentation, and cardiac arrest/rapid response to the Quality Council.
  • Analyzing restraint utilization, falls, and cardiac arrest/rapid response as a member of the Patient Safety Improvement committee.
  • Maintaining The Joint Commission (TJC) standards by performing Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).
  • Assisting with disaster management preparation activities and completing FEMA ICS 300 level training.
  • Facilitating meetings for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (STEPPS) as a TeamSTEPPS 2.0 Master Trainer.
  • Collaborating closely with hospital administration to focus on employee retention, HCAHPS initiatives, and enhancing employee morale as the chair for the Employee Advisory Group (EAG).
  • Attending daily interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings in an effort to decrease patient length of stay (LOS) and mitigate potential readmissions.

Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist (2013-2015)

As a Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist at HCA Healthcare, I was responsible for identifying appropriate patients for Acute Rehabilitation within the HCA West Florida Division hospital network and outside facilities, maintaining census at Palms Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU), and ensuring compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards. My key responsibilities and contributions included:

  • Assessing each patient for appropriateness for admission to the unit, risk, and FIM score assessment.
  • Coordinating services with therapists to ensure patient appropriateness and working with key physicians to obtain referrals in a timely manner.
  • Following up with key referral sources (physicians and allied healthcare professionals) on patient outcomes.
  • Working with insurance case managers to obtain authorization for patient’s treatment.
  • Educating the community on the benefits of Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation vs Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation by comparing rehospitalization rates, average LOS, and minimum standard therapy requirements.
  • Participating in projects including call light/bed alarm utilization, fall analysis, FIM score gains, and rehospitalization.
  • Serving as a member of the Mission, Vision, and Values Committee, an invited group of employees tasked with revitalizing the mission statement of Palms of Pasadena Hospital.
  • Chairing the Employee Advisory Group (EAG), working closely with administration to focus on employee retention, HCAHPS initiatives, and enhancing employee morale.
  • Coordinating the Ethics and Compliance Records Retention Project, assisting the COO, ECO, and HIM Director with a project to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Serving as the Department Liaison for the Dialysis Unit, managing billing for services, coordinating schedules with the Fresenius director, and formulating systems to improve efficiency and mitigate potential loss associated with late initiation of services.
